Eleven postal workers were reportedly suspended by Royal Mail after having a cup of tea at a local pub. The suspension action was taken after workers were found to have been taking their breaks at the Caernarvon Castle pub in Prenton, Merseyside, though locals say they were only ever seen drinking tea and coffee.Complaints flooded in with locals saying the tea break created a major disruption to postal services in the Oxton and Prenton area of the Wirral, Liverpool.

Some residents reported not receiving mail for a week, with one missing two hospital appointments.According to the Liverpool Echo, Royal Mail has declined to comment on internal affairs after being slammed for their handling of the situation.

The company has apologised to those who experienced delays with three of the workers being reinstated.Pub regular Ian Harris expressed his shock at the decision, stating that the posties were given a pot of coffee tea and allowed to use the toilet facilities to “freshen up".

He added: “There wasn’t any alcohol whatsoever used and we the regulars liked to see them."Mick Whitley, MP for Birkenhead, said he was told by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) that 11 postal workers had been suspended but three had now been reinstated.
