The number of stalkers bothering the Royal Family has risen to an all-time high, it has been revealed. Last year 170 stalking cases relating to the family were logged by police - with 10 being categorised as being of the highest danger level.
It comes after it last week emerged a fantasist pretending to be a priest was welcomed into The Queen’s guards’ barracks at Windsor - just yards from Windsor Castle - and was given a bed for the night. The figures, which cover 2021 and were obtained by a freedom of information request, show 141 suspects were referred to the Fixated Threat Assessment Centre.
The centre is a joint police and mental health unit set up in 2006 to assess and manage the risk to politicians, members of the British Royal Family, and other public figures from obsessive individuals.
A total of 128 of the 170 cases were considered to be of a 'moderate' risk with just 32 deemed low risk. Buckingham Palace said it did not comment on security matters.
