Former Republic of Ireland captain Roy Keane has revealed how Matt Holland received a great deal of stick from his international teammates after he was spotted singing God Save the Queen during a game for Ipswich.

Keane, who was born in Cork, had a turbulent time with Ireland, and was sent home from the World Cup in 2002 after an argument with then-manager Mick McCarthy.

Nevertheless, the 48-year-old has always told of his pride at representing his country, and discusses the concept of national identity in his new autobiography.

As reported by Punditarena, Keane said: "I’ve never been against players who weren’t born in Ireland playing for the country.
