Rory McIlroy suffered a front nine nightmare to get blown out of contention at the Charles Schwab Challenge on Sunday night.
The world No.1 had started the final round only three shots off the overnight lead at the first event back on the PGA Tour. But on a typically windy Texan day, the Ulsterman carded four bogeys and a double in his opening nine holes to go out in six-over 41.
McIlroy picked up three birdies coming home – including holing a 52-foot bunker shot on the 16th – to card a rollercoaster round of four-over 74.
He finished nine shots behind Americans Daniel Berger (66) and Collin Morikawa (67) who finished locked on 15-under par after 72 holes.
