Rodri has been named the winner of the prestigious Ballon d'Or prize for 2024. The Manchester City and Spain midfielder - currently sidelined for the campaign in a major blow to Pep Guardiola and his champions - came out on the top of the voting to lift the top prize.
Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr was heavily fancied in the build-up with leaks suggesting he had won the voting. However, it later emerged today that it was in fact Rodri who would be claiming the award at the 68th ceremony in Paris with the Spanish giants left furious and not attending.
That is how it would transpire on the night with the midfielder claiming the gold medal position on the podium. The 28-year-old joins an elite list including the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Luka Modric to receive the gong over the years.
Real Madrid trio Vini Jr, Jude Bellingham and Dani Carvajal claimed spots two to four in the vote. The likes of Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Lamine Yamal and Harry Kane all feature in the top ten.
