Rochdale Imam Jalal Uddin was called 'Voldermort' by Islamic State fanatics before his murder in "brutal" hammer attack

Two Islamic State extremists who murdered a much-loved Rochdale Imam referred to him as "Voldemort" and said he was engaging "black magic", a public inquiry heard.

Jalal Uddin, 71, was bludgeoned to death with a hammer in a "brutal and ferocious" attack in a children's play area at the end of South Street in the Wardleworth area of the town on February 18, 2016.

Inquiry chairman Judge Thomas Teague KC ruled some evidence must not be made public and heard only in private sessions to prevent harm to the detection and prevention of terrorism and public safety.
