Highly-touted Rocco Vata fired home the opener from a volley and it was double delight when Tsoanelo Letsosa was quickest to react to double his side's lead in the 10th minute.
And it could be even better after 15 minutes but Adam Brooks was denied by the RB Leipzig keeper from the penalty spot. And Celtic lived to rue that missed opportunity as the resurgent visitors pushed the pace after the interval.
Max Voigt reduced the arrears in the 58th minute and that led to a sustained period of pressure as the young Celts aimed to contain the hosts.
