Robin van Persie says self-doubt fuelled the improvement in his performances at Arsenal, and says a chat with Sol Campbell helped him get better as a forward.
The Dutchman joined the Gunners from Feyenoord for just £2.75million in 2004, but he scored just five goals in each of his first two seasons in the Premier League.
Having decided that he needed to score more, he took to writing lists to determine what he needed to improve on. "Over the years I kept asking questions and I even wrote stuff down to myself," Van Persie explained on The High Performance podcast. "So at one point at Arsenal after two years I wasn’t satisfied, I wasn’t happy, it was going okay but not good enough.
