Robert Downey Jr. hosts a screening of his film Sr., a moving documentary about his father, actor and filmmaker Robert Downey Sr., on Monday (October 10) in New York City.
The 57-year-old Iron Man actor said at the screening, “I’m inviting you to hopefully not feel like this film is about me and my dad, but about that crazy, impossible Gordian Knot that is family and dysfunction and art, and trying to make sense of it all.” Click inside to read more… The film explores Downey Sr.’s life and work, including his relationship with Robert Downey Jr. “We knew we had to get real,” Robert Downey Jr. said at the Q&A, according to USA Today. “This can’t be some nepotistic, controlled retrospective – this is not that kind of party.
This needs to transcend that. Documentary film is a very different bar than even a narrative, so we knew we had to trust each other and go to places that any publicist would say, ‘Never!’ We had to start at ‘never’ and then take it from there.” Robert Downey Jr. produced the film alongside his wife Susan Downey, Emily Barclay Ford and Kevin Ford.
The film will stream on Netflix later this year. Last week, Robert Downey Jr. came out for the Decision To Leave premiere in LA.
