Robbie Savage is under consideration for an unexpected role that could see him help Manchester United develop younger players.
The former United academy prospect became the head coach of Macclesfield in the summer after just under four years at the club in a number of different roles.
Despite it being his first job in management, Savage has got off to a strong start with Macclesfield, who are unbeaten and top of the Northern Premier League - Premier Division which is step 3 of non-league football directly below the National League North and South.
While having not lost in the league, Macclesfield missed out on an FA Cup first round proper tie against Huddersfield after losing to Tamworth in the fourth qualifying round.
