Riverdale is coming to an end. The CW announced on Thursday, May 19 that Riverdale season 7, which will air in a midseason slot, shall be its last.During an executive call on Thursday, CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz that Riverdale’s conclusion was agreed upon with show creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, “who’s thrilled by this news.” Pedowitz ensured that “seven years is the right amount” for the series and promised to give it a proper send-off. “It was an iconic pop culture star, and we want to make sure it goes out the right way,” he added.Based on Archie Comics characters, Riverdale premiered in 2017 and followed a group of teenagers including as Archie, as Betty, as Jughead, as Veronica, as Cheryl, as Reggie, and as Toni.

Luke Perry played Archie’s father until his death in 2019. In recent months, some of the show’s stars have hinted that Riverdale's season 7 would be their last without confirming that the show itself was about to end.

Reinhart as much on her Instagram in December when she said the season would “probably be the last one,” while Sprouse told last month that the cast was ready to “wrap it up with a bow.”Riverdale’s final season comes amidst a bloodbath at the CW, with nine shows, including Dynasty, Charmed, and Roswell, New Mexico, getting axed just last week.

The network is currently on the market, which could justify its desire to shirk some original scripted titles.
