Riot police form barrier in Edinburgh's Niddrie as fireworks are launched

Riot police with shields have been seen forming barriers in the Edinburgh neighbourhood of Niddrie after cars were attacked by youths throwing fireworks.

Specialist officers have been supporting local officers through the night with riot cops now pictured arrving at the scene in Niddrie this evening.

Footage from locals shows dozens of cops wearing helmets holding shields as they form a barrier on a street in the area. Riot vans have also been seen.

A helicopter is also supporting officers as as part of Operation Moonbeam.Police previously urged the public to 'avoid' the Niddrie area earlier this evening.
