The bike, a Mondial HPS motorcycle, was first spotted by police travelling at high speeds along Bolton Road in Atherton at about 9.30pm last night (Thursday).
It was riding alongside another motorbike, police said. Both bikes failed to stop for police so a chase took place, until the rider of the HPS bike - a 17-year-old boy - took off his helmet.
Officers had to stop the pursuit. The HPS bike was spotted again by an unmarked police car on Highfield Road in Farnworth later in the evening.
