Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke Tease New Movie Together Set in the 19th Century: ‘I Want to Get It Financed’

Ellise Shafer Before premiering their latest collaboration “Blue Moon” at Berlin Film Festival, Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke revealed that they have a 10th film together in the works. “Blue Moon” marks Hawke and Linklater’s first film together in over a decade, since 2014’s “Boyhood.” They’ve now worked on nine feature films together over the course of their careers, including the “Before” trilogy, “The Newton Boys” and “Fast Food Nation.” When asked by Variety if fans would have to wait another decade for his next film with Hawke, Linklater said, “I sure hope not.

There’s this thing we’re working on, it’s kind of a historical piece, 19th century thing. Hopefully he’s a big part of that.

But until it’s financed and ready to go, I never really talk about things too much just because they get frustrating.” The celebrated director continued, “There’s pressure enough… just to see how films come together.

Each one’s a miracle. I don’t know how films get made, I just feel like each time I get lucky and this happens. It’s hard, but it’s not real until it’s real.” Hawke said he wanted to share more, but is “nervous,” adding: “I’m dying to, but I’m always worried.
