It's an iconic 1990s rom-com. But Richard Gere has joked he and Julia Roberts had "no chemistry" in Pretty Woman.The 75 year old heartthrob reminisced about his portrayal of suave tycoon Edward Lewis in the 1990 hit film, humorously commenting on how his role was "criminally underwritten".

During a masterclass at the Venice Film Festival, he quipped: "I was playing a character that was almost criminally underwritten." He continued with a chuckle: "It was basically a suit and a good haircut." Richard then playfully remarked about his on-screen partnership with Julia, who played prostitute Vivian Ward, saying he and 56 year old Julia's prostitute character Vivian Ward "had no chemistry".
