Primary schools in Wigan were reportedly put on a temporary 'lockdown' on Tuesday afternoon (July 18) as parents and carers were sent worrying messages.
Two local schools in the Worsley Mesnes area of Wigan, St Jude's Catholic Primary and St James' Church of England, which are both opposite each other, reportedly went into a brief lockdown.
Parents and guardians were reportedly sent notifications from both schools, which have been seen by the M.E.N, stating that they had been put into 'lockdown' - but that all the children were safe inside. It is understood however that there was no major incident locally and schools lifted lockdowns a short time later, with children safe to leave as normal.
A message from St James' shortly before 3pm on Tuesday afternoon said the school was 'currently in a lockdown situation' and that nobody could 'leave the building until further notice'.
