Renfrew super gran is set to take on half marathon this weekend

A super gran from Renfrew is set to pound the pavement this weekend as she tackles the Great Scottish Run.Grandmother-of-ten Catherine Wilson is taking on the challenge on Sunday to raise money for Alzheimer Scotland.This isn’t the 71-year-old’s first rodeo either, she’s participated in the Great Scottish Run twice before and has also run a marathon, 10k races and other events. This has all happened over the last six years, with the hero only taking to running after her 65th birthday, when she was inspired to raise money for Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital after witnessing the incredible work staff at the maternity ward did when one of her grandchildren was born prematurely..Catherine said: “I hadn’t run anywhere since I was about 12.

But when I was 65 my daughter Karen’s baby was born prematurely. I wanted to do something for the hospital and it was my daughter who said we should sign up to do a race, so it all started from there.”And she just kept on running.

She signed up to take part in organised 5km runs each Saturday. She then joined Kilbarchan Amateur Athletic Club and takes part in their training sessions every week.“I do three or four races a year, always for a different charity.
