Every book that Reese Witherspoon touches turns to gold from Big Little Lies to Where The Crawdad Sings, the actress knows how to make an adaptation work.
Now she’s set her sights on an Irish story. Reese promoted the crime novel Northern Spy by US writer Flynn Berry in her book club and it has since rocketed up the New York Times’ bestseller list.
Unsurprisingly, this means that production companies have their sights on adapting the book. Northern Spy tells the story of two Northern Irish sisters, Tessa and Marian, who become entangled with the IRA.
Tessa, who works as a producer at the Belfast bureau of the BBC, is left shocked to see footage of her sister wearing a balaclava during an IRA bombing.
