Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music CriticThe Stagecoach Festival in the southern California desert is officially asking attendees to secede from any love they might have for the Confederate flag or any other “divisive symbols.”The Desert Sun newspaper noticed an addition to Goldenvoice’s Stagecoach website this year, on the General Resort Rules page that provides guidelines for those in the overnight camping areas. It reads: “No divisive symbols, including, without limitation, Confederate flags and racially disparaging or other inappropriate imagery/public displays.”Confederate imagery among fans has been a point of contention at the festival in the past, with some seeing the flag as a harmless symbol of Southern pride — even this many thousand miles away from the South — while others see it as a dog whistle for racism or an emblem of insurrection against the government.

Angelique Jackson Entrepreneur and TV personality Nicole Walters has relaunched her eponymous podcast “The Nicole Walters Podcast” with a new partner — Dear Media.For the third season of the “Nicole Walters Podcast,” Walters — who is best known as the star of USA Networks’ family docu-comedy “She’s the Boss” — has teamed with the podcast company to rebrand the show where she coaches listeners on ways to “grow your network and monetize your life” using the corporate strategies she mastered in her 10 years as a Fortune 500 executive.“I have found my greatest passion to be connecting with every day women and helping them find their purpose,” Walters said in a statement announcing the move.

Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis has become the latest star to respond to Will Smith’s viral slap of Chris Rock at last month’s Oscars.Last month, Smith struck the comedian on-stage during the Academy Awards ceremony following a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head. Following numerous apologies over the incident, Smith resigned from the Academy and described his actions as “shocking, painful, and inexcusable”.Asked by Howard Stern what he thought of the incident, Kiedis originally replied that “too much has been said already.”The band’s guitarist John Frusciante then stepped in, saying: “We love Chris Rock and I’ll stand forward and say he should not have been slapped.” Rock inducted the band into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.Kiedis then did give his take though, telling the host: “I love comedy.

Ellise Shafer Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith has shared a tribute video to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died on March 25 at the age of 50.The video is a compilation of Smith and Hawkins’ most memorable moments together captured on camera, including many clips from touring. Foo Fighters first opened for the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1999 on their “Californication” tour, during which Hawkins and Dave Grohl played an epic prank on Smith by dumping pasta on him while he was drumming. Ever since, the two drummers kept up a playful yet sincere friendship, which is displayed in the video.“Taylor’s my good buddy who I’ve known forever,” Smith says during an interview clip at the beginning of the video.

With a soundtrack provided by the USC marching band, and in front of hundreds of cheering spectators, Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and John Fruiscante made the most of the photo opp, going so far as to lick the star once it was revealed.The band, which is releasing a new album on Friday — “Unlimited Love,” the Chilis’ 12th full-length release, via Warner Records — holds a deep personal connection with the famous boulevard.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are about to become a permanent fixture in Hollywood.

Red Hot Chili Peppers album, drummer Chad Smith tells Variety, “I’m partial, sentimentally, to ‘Blood Sugar Sex Magik.’ John [Frusciante] had matured as a player and was coming up with really melodic stuff. Anthony [Kiedis] had started to sing more [instead of rap]. It was the first time we worked with Rick Rubin; we had signed to Warner; we made an incredible record; and everything changed after that.”It seemed magical, in other words.

There’s a good case to be made that at least a couple members of the enduring rock band that is synonymous with Los Angeles have had a closer connection to the sidewalks of Hollywood — literally — than any of the 2,716 honorees that preceded them.“I’m pretty sure that I have inadvertently vomited on Hollywood Walk of Fame stars in my lifetime,” Anthony Kiedis says, with a tinge of romanticism as he recalls a misspent youth prior to the group’s formation nearly 40 years ago.
