Trooping the Colour is fast approaching and, despite the announcement of the upcoming General Election, it is still expected to be given permission to take place.

The annual celebration - which celebrates the official birthday of the sovereign - is set for Saturday, 15 June and will see the regiments of the Foot Guards parade from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall and back.

While her attendance remains unconfirmed, the Princess of Wales would have a significant role this year as the Irish Guards, of which she is Colonel, are trooping their Regimental Colour in front of the King.The question over whether the princess will join the rest of the Royal Family at the event has prompted many to question whether Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will also make an appearance on the day.

Speaking exclusively to OK! ahead of the day, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond suggested they may miss it entirely. "I do wonder whether the children will go along if Catherine is absent," she said, explaining: "William won’t have much time to look after them, so why not leave them at home?" The Prince of Wales plays a major role on the day as he rides in the parade along with the King, the Princess Royal and the Duke of Edinburgh as the Colonel of the Welsh Guards.
