Rapist student who treated victims as 'playthings' after plying them with booze is jailed

A rapist student treated his victims as 'playthings or toys', a judge who jailed him said. Charles Goodwin, 21, a mixed martial arts fighter from Salford, was found guilty in January of raping two students and sexually assaulting another.

He was jailed today for 17 years by a judge who branded him a misogynist. "Their consent was a matter of complete indifference to you," Judge Garrett Byrne told Goodwin. "You treated each victim not as a human being deserving of respect, but as a plaything or toy and you took the view that once they were within your control, you could do with them as you please irrespective of their wishes and without any regard to the impact that your conduct would have upon them." He described himself during his trial as 'a hopeless romantic', but was ruled to be dangerous and the judge imposed a three-year extended licence.

Judge Byrne told the business management student - who described himself to one victim as 'a sex god' - it was clear he had no care for whether his victims were consenting.
