No, the big Belgian would rather have a subway ticket to Govan and a raucous Ibrox any day of the week. As manager of AS Monaco, Clement would have been surrounded by richness.
But not in passion or intensity. Not in noise or fervour. That’s what was absent in his last job with the Ligue 1 club before he arrived in Glasgow.
Monaco’s stadium, the Stade Louis II, holds just 16,000 fans. Even then, for domestic games it’s regularly only half-full. Clement enjoyed the stint at Monaco but it wasn’t what he was used to before in Belgium at Genk or Club Brugge.
