The Rangers faithful aren’t exactly short on reasons to ramp up the noise levels when Ange Postecoglou makes his Ibrox return tonight.
But the former Celtic boss has certainly given them another one now. He might not have meant it. He probably wasn’t even aware he had done it.
But by writing off the experience of playing in front of empty houses during the Covid lockdown years as a “meaningless” enterprise, the Aussie also managed to slap down his former Old Firm foes and their 2021 title-winning achievement.
That’s how the more sensitive elements of the Rangers faithful are bound to take it. But in actual fact, they should look beyond that … well, let’s be generous and call it an unintended jibe, and instead take it as a backhanded compliment.
