Rangers midfielder Alex Lowry is "looking good" in training according to B-team boss David McCallum, but tomorrow's big UEFA Youth League clash with Liverpool will come "too soon" for him to make his comeback. The 19-year-old has been sidelined since August when he was the victim of a shocking late tackle by Dumbarton's Ally Love late on in the B team's 7-0 thrashing of Sons in the SPFL Trust Trophy. It was a huge setback for the Uddingston teen, who was already on his way back from injury at the time and trying to force his way back into the first-team plans under Giovanni van Bronckhorst following a breakthrough season last term. The young Gers host Liverpool tomorrow afternoon at Firhill ahead of the senior sides going head-to-head at Ibrox in the UEFA Champions League group stages. But the Uddingston starlet won't be making an appearance, despite being close to a return.McCallum said: "He [Lowry] won't be involved in our game tomorrow, it's slightly too soon for that.

There's been talk about looking at the fixtures coming up to see where he might get some opportunities."He's back training and he's looking good, but there's a bit of care to be taken to make sure that when he does go back into games, he's able to put himself in that environment full on without any concerns at all, even just in terms of his general fitness."You don't want to put him in that environment without having his fitness levels and endurance levels at a point where he can sustain his performances. "Hopefully he's not too far away.

We're having conversations with the staff to see when he might return." Last week, Liverpool ran out 4-1 winners in the first clash down south. Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebooko
