Annandale Speakers held their third meeting of the season at Lockerbie Bowling Club on October 24.President David Logan welcomed a full house and handed over to Speaker for the evening John Reid who introduced each of the speakers with his usual wit and good humour.First up was Ronnie Callander with the title Right Hand Man and he went on to tell about George Washington’s right hand man Alexander Hamilton.
The fascinating politics and duels of the time and the popular musical that came from it. A terrific speech.Next to the rostrum was David Bell, with the title Right Of Way.
David told about the history and the importance of rights of way, the relation to farmland, the 56 miles of The Annandale way and the fact there is a path of the month.
A very good ramble.John Cannon’s A Bit of Alright talked about his courting days, well over 50 years ago which centred on Saturday nights in the village hall at Portpatrick.
