Karate Kid star Ralph Macchio has said he would like to see a big screen version of his hit show Cobra Kai in “two or three years”.Macchio is the original star of The Karate Kid, the 80s martial arts trilogy that saw his character, a young boy named Daniel LaRusso, learn the secrets of karate through his mentor, Mr.

Miyagi. The films are considered classics and spawned a 2010 remake with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith.In 2018, the spin-off series Cobra Kai revisited the characters from the original films as adults, re-framing the story from the point of view of Daniel’s rival, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).

The show has been a great success and is now in its sixth and final season.In May this year, Macchio plays the character on the big screen for the first time since 1989 in Karate Kid: Legends, appearing opposite Chan’s character from the 2010 film in a story set three years after the series’ conclusion.Speaking to The New York Times ahead of Cobra Kai’s season six part three, Macchio said he would be open to a big screen version of Cobra Kai if this crossover was a success.

He said “Listen, I said it was the end for me when I got done with the last 1980s Karate Kid movie. So I will say never say never.
