RAF veteran’s perfect send off in Flying Scotsman coffin thanks to funeral director son

A thoughtful son has transformed his father’s coffin to give him the ‘Holy Grail’ of all send offs by painting the Flying Scotsman onto the frame.

Train enthusiast Donald Braithwaite, adored railways and was a keen member of model train clubs most of his adult life, however he sadly passed away on October 2, aged 88.

His son Andrew, who is a funeral director, wanted to pay tribute to his dad, a former RAF crewman, by giving him a bespoke goodbye that he would have loved.

Donald passed away suddenly, but peacefully in hospital after an illness lasting just a few days. His lifelong interest in the railways began where he was born 100 yards from the local railway station, and grew up playing around the train tracks.Now only son Andrew,
