An RAF airman tragically collapsed and died from a head injury after suffering several heavy blows in tackles during a rugby match.

Senior aircraftman Scott Stevenson, 25, was injured playing in an inter-services rugby clash - but refused to come off the pitch, an inquest heard.

He was hurt while playing for an RAF first team in a match against the Army but carried on, determined not to let his side down.

The fullback was tackled four times - three involving significant blows to the left side of his head - before falling unconscious in the second half of the game.
