A Labour MP has slammed the government's handling of the pandemic calling the soaring death toll 'an absolute tragedy' that could have been avoided.
Louise Haigh, MP for Sheffield, made the stark claims after the latest data revealed Covid had killed a further 1,290 people in the UK - a day after the country recorded the highest daily total of the pandemic so far.
It leaves the UK as having the highest death rate in the world from coronavirus.
