Naman Ramachandran “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight is developing a drama series based on the life of William Shakespeare, based on a concept by double BAFTA-winning “Happy Valley” star Sarah Lancashire. The series is being developed with Banijay U.K.’s Kudos and Lancashire’s production company, Via Pictures, which she formed with Peter Salmon. It will be written by Knight and will be produced out of his Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham by Kudos, in association with Via. The drama will tell the complete story of the glove-maker’s son who became the greatest storyteller in history and how his genius survived and thrived in an age of turmoil and terror, danger and disease. It aims to be the first full account of the passion, people and politics that made William Shakespeare the world’s most famous dramatist and the men and women around him who loved and labored, schemed and plotted, killed and connived in one of the most dangerous periods in history.

Lise Pedersen “Knit’s Island,” the sophomore feature by French trio Ekiem Barbier, Guilhem Causse and Quentin L’helgoualc’h, competing in the Burning Lights sidebar at Swiss international doc fest Visions du Reél, has been picked up by Vienna-based film sales company Square Eyes. It is entirely shot in the online post-apocalyptic world of DayZ, a multiplayer survival video game set in the fictional post-Soviet Republic of Chernarus, where a mysterious plague has turned most of the population into violent zombies. Their goal was to show how the gaming world can be a place where players become part of a strong community, they tell Variety.

's Nick Thompson announced he started a nonprofit to help reality TV stars in the wake of allegations of mistreatment on the hit Netflix show.Thompson, who appeared on season 2 of and married before divorcing co-star Danielle Ruhl, took to Instagram on Thursday and announced he's a founding board member and executive director of outreach for the UCAN Foundation, which aims to «provide mental health and legal support to past, current, and future reality TV contestants.»Thompson explained in a lengthy caption that, no, he and fellow reality TV stars didn't sign up to be food and water-deprived, allegations made by several of his co-stars, including his ex.  «I signed up for a 'psychologically-based' love experiment sold as 'different from other reality shows,'» he wrote in his caption. «Love is Blind S1 made a believer out of me, and I thought the experience could work for me if I went with good intentions and stayed true to myself.»Thompson went on to say that the «vetting» process «included psych tests and evaluations, background checks, and assurances the cast members selected is 'ready for marriage.'» He also claimed being told that the psychologist that conducted his evaluation spoke to his therapist to verity the ethics and conditions of the show out of concern it would diminish his progress.
