The late Queen's reaction to Harry and Meghan stepping down as senior royals has been revealed in a brand new book. The Sussexes announced they would be leaving their roles as working royals in early 2020 and later moved to the US.
Now, a source close to the late Queen claims she was hurt by their eventual decision to leave. At the time, the Queen acknowledged their decision and thanked them for their "dedicated" work, adding: "It is my whole family's hope that today's agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life." However, in a new book by Katie Nicholl called The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth's Legacy and the Future of the Crown, the monarch's alleged true feelings towards the decision have been revealed.
An excerpt of the book published in Vanity Fair claims she confided in a close friend that the whole debacle had exhausted her.The source said: "She was very hurt and told me, 'I don't know, I don't care, and I don't want to think about it anymore'." The excerpt also claims that the late monarch didn't see much at all of her great grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, due to the couple's move to the States. The Sussexes flew back to be by the royal family's side following the death of the Queen on Thursday 9 September.
The same source added that King Charles was "hurt and disappointed" by the decision too, but they added that "he has always said his love for Harry is unconditional".
