Queen of the South boss hails "fantastic performance" after win at Cove Rangers

Manager Marvin Bartley hailed his Queens players for putting their bodies on the line to pick up three away points and insisted: “It was a fantastic performance from the boys.” He added: “I couldn’t be prouder of them, all of them, every single individual.” Queens won 2-1 at Cove Rangers and had to re-shuffle their team after keeper Gordon Botterill was sent off.

But they held onto the narrow lead and racked a third win on the trot to impress Bartley, who added: “I said to them at half time, (when we were 2-0 up) ‘you will have to show a different side, be resilient and when you go on the counter make sure you punish them’. “Then we go down to 10 men and they put pressure on us, but the substitutes went on the pitch and headed things away, blocked things...they had to show a different side to their game to hold out.” Queens took an early lead through Harvey Walker and Bartley remarked: “It was the perfect start, “Before coming out, we knew that teams could look and see that we have conceded early goals and I said I want them to make a strong start and by that, I meant don’t concede, give ourselves a chance to build our way into a game because we know our fitness will take over but that was a dream start. “That’s what we have been speaking about, all good teams have a solid platform to go off and that’s not just defenders, we have to defend as a whole team and to a man they were fantastic. “I couldn’t really see what happened (at the sending off) or initially couldn’t tell who the red card was for, but today was about praising the boys and winning the game of football. “It is an important win because it was the one in front of us, so I am delighted for the players, they deserved it.” The win follows on the back
