Queen 'chose Princess Anne to accompany her coffin' on final emotional journey

Princess Anne, the only daughter o f The Queen, was selected especially by her mother to accompany her on the final emotional journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh alongside her funeral cortège.

The Princess Royal, 72, made the six hour journey, which marks the first leg of the coffin’s journey back to London, on Sunday.

Despite the tragic circumstance, the senior royal remained ever composed as she was driven behind the hearse in a royal Bentley during the funeral procession, with her husband of 30 years Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence supporting her throughout the difficult time.

With all of the Queen’s funeral arrangements planned meticulously in advance of her death, the accompaniment of her daughter means it is very likely that her Majesty personally requested her daughter to accompany the coffin to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
