ABC’s World News Tonight showed ratings growth in the first quarter, delivering an average of 8.13 million viewers, while its rivals saw year-over-year erosion.
The newscast’s audience was up from 8.12 million in the same period a year earlier. NBC Nightly News averaged 6.6 million viewers, off by 3% from the first quarter of last year.
CBS Evening News averaged 4.59 million, dropping 8%. The latter broadcast debuted a new format on Jan. 27, with John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois succeeding Norah O’Donnell as anchors.
In the 25-54 demo, World News Tonight averaged 1.16 million viewers, up 3%, compared to 983,000 for NBC Nightly News, down by 1%, and 657,000 for CBS Evening News, off by 9%.
