Pupils were forced to 'hide at the back of classrooms' and put on 'code red' after a Greater Manchester school was plunged into lockdown this afternoon.
Police raced to Droylsden Academy in Tameside at around 12:20pm to reports of an intruder on the premises. The school confirmed that 'lockdown procedures' were initiated, but that police are treating the incident as a hoax.
Concerned parents gathered outside the secondary school anxious to collect their children after what they called a 'shocking' and 'unsettling' afternoon.
