Punters will wager £30million on Cheltenham’s Gold Cup on Thursday as the famous racing festival comes to a roaring climax. More than 60,000 punters are expected to pack out the Gloucestershire course.
They will rub shoulders with the stars at the famous festival and guzzle Guinness to mark St Patrick’s Day, which is on Tuesday.
Numbers have dipped slightly this week but Cheltenham bosses have been so many have refused to let the coronavirus put them off.
Yesterday’s attendance was 66,218, down from 70,000 last year. The bug also failed to deter famous faces like Carol Vorderman, Sir Alex Ferguson, Mike Tindall and wife Zara and actress Emilia Fox, who was with her boyfriend Luc Chaudhary.
