A 12 year old school girl was left without lunch for an entire school day after canteen staff refused to serve her food because she was missing her tie.

Mum, Joanne Mcclenaghan said that her daughter, Rio-Anne was left hungry the whole day after a canteen worker at South Wigston high school cruelly dismissed her and said ''no tie, no dinner.'' The outraged mum of four said that her daughter's tie was absent due to an incident where another student had ''grabbed and thrown it in the bin'' earlier in the week, WalesOnline reports.

Joanne said the school were aware of this and had promised that they'd replace it but had not yet done so. Principal Stuart Kay confirmed that while staff are urged to get students to comply with school uniform rules, there is no official policy in place that grants staff the power to refuse pupils food over missing ties and blazers.

Joanne said: "Food is not a punishment. You cannot use food as a way to discipline children. Regardless of behaviour I just don't see how they can refuse food."Joanne added: "She'd gone a whole week without her tie and reported it being taken and put in the bin.
