Public Health England insists it is 'not dragging its feet' over coronavirus testing

Public Health England's medical director has responded to criticism that the government isn't doing enough to increase coronavirus testing.

In today's daily press briefing from Downing Street, asked if PHE was “dragging its feet” in approving a new antibody test, Professor Yvonne Doyle said it was important to make sure tests worked before rolling them out.

She said: “The important thing about theses antibody tests, this is not a matter of dragging our feet, it’s important that the test is valid, that it does what it says it does. “And as the chief medical officer (Professor Chris Whitty) said, there’s something worse than no test – a wrong test or a bad test."
