Aldi have revealed £4.7million plans for a new store in Dumbarton - directly opposite the town’s Lidl.The budget supermarket chain, which already has a branch in Alexandria, has been targeting a move to Dumbarton since 2020 - and last week revealed the proposals for a new store on land off Castle Street.According to the chain, the new store would create 35 local jobs.The announcement comes ahead of a public consultation at Riverside Parish Church on Wednesday, September 27 between 3pm and 7pm.The event will provide the public with an opportunity to learn more about the proposals, ask questions of the project team, and leave feedback.An Aldi spokeswoman said: “We are excited to be announcing our proposals for a new store in Dumbarton.“We have long strived for a store in Dumbarton, and we are delighted to be bringing these plans forward.“An Aldi store would bring significant investment of £6m to the local area, along with around 35 new jobs, whilst supporting other local businesses through our investment in the Scottish food and drink sector.“I would urge anyone with an interest in the proposals to attend our consultation event and view the plans online.”Dumbarton’s Lidl opened in early 2020, following a lengthy planning wrangle - with the project approved despite planning officials calling on councillors to refuse permission for a second time.Officers had claimed at the time that the building’s design was unacceptable, whilst NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde also objected to Lidl being granted a licence to sell alcohol on the basis of health concerns due to the area’s high number of alcohol-related deaths.The store forms part of a regenerated waterfront in the town, which also features a new housing development on site of
