One of the UK's biggest pub chains has said it plans to cut 2,150 jobs due to the impact of new coronavirus restrictions in the UK.

Marston's said a number of roles are at risk as new three-tier rules come into force in towns and cities across England. It comes after rival chain Greene King confirmed 79 closures a week ago, following a slump in trade triggered by the mandatory 10pm curfew.

Greene King, which owns almost 1,700 pubs in Britain, said it had launched a consultation with 800 employees over plans to close 79 branches.

It said around 25 will shut permanently with the remaining 54 outlets to stay closed until further notice. The company has more than 38,000 employees UK-wide.
