The boss of an iconic Ayrshire country pub says she made “the right decision” to reduce operation hours due to the cost of living crisis.

Failford Inn manager Holly Cree, 48, has come full circle to run the beloved pub and restaurant — in the tiny hamlet of Failford just nine miles from Ayr town — as she first started working at the 112 year old Inn age 11 and later trained as a chef.Holly, who lives near Mauchline, sadly announced earlier this month that the Inn would only be open at weekends for the foreseeable due to the soaring cost of living and spiralling supply costs. But this hasn’t stopped her enthusiasm for running the popular haunt, which still features the original bar and fireplace and has long been a famous stopping off point for walkers and their dogs when walking the River Ayr route.Holly said: “I worked in Failford for 13 years and trained here as a chef.“I was here when it was a proper young farmers pub and was always very, very busy.“People were standing out in the hallway because they couldn’t get room in the bar.“I’ve got great memories of Failford and that’s why when it came up for lease about three years ago I thought ‘oh should I, should I not?’“But then I just thought ‘what have I got to lose?’“I used to always say ‘I’d love to have this pub as my own one day’, but I obviously never ever thought in a million years that I would.“It just feels as if I’ve always been here to be honest."The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now.Get all the local news in your area – plus features, football news and the latest on the coronavirus crisis – at your fingertips 24/7.The free download features the latest breaking news and exclusive stories while you can customise your page with the sections that
