A group of organised criminals have been sent to prison after they were caught in a covert meeting for the illegal sale and purchase of a modified Turkish pistol.
Connor Nixon, 27, bought the blank firing self-loading pistol, which had been altered to fire live rounds, at a prearranged meeting in Liverpool on May 21 this year.
His associate Thomas Ambrose, 30, had set up the sale of the weapon from brothers Thomas Collins, 30, and Alan Gray, 36, and the lethal firearm was collected by courier Christopher James during a clandestine meeting around 1pm.
The gang was under surveillance by police acting on intelligence. Ambrose drove Nixon and James from Wirral to Liverpool, where they rendezvoused with Collins and Gray on a footpath near Rosedale Close, Walton.
