A private Scottish island which inspired JM Barrie's Peter Pan and is owned by Richard Branson's sister will feature in a new TV show.

Eilean Shona, Inner Hebrides, will star in the Channel 4 series Extraordinary Escapes, which features the UK's most upmarket and unusual holiday homes.

JM Barrie rented the tidal island in Loch Moidart for a summer in the 1920s and actress Kate Winslet celebrated her 40th birthday there.Vanessa Branson, the sister of billionaire Richard Branson, purchased the island in 1995 for around £1.3 million. In May 2020, she opened her holiday home to rentals by the public, including the 11-bedroom main house. The island has a population of just two and is car-free.The Extraordinary Escapes episode will explore comedian and presenter Sandi Toksvig and psychotherapist and author Philippa Perry's trip to the island.A film crew recorded the pair on the island last April where they explored the 1,300 acres of moorland and woodland classed as part of the Scottish Rainforest. They stayed in one of the island's properties - the two bedroom Old Schoolhouse, where prices start from £2,000 a week, on the north shore. It was once the community's school but was derelict until owner Vanessa Branson turned it into a two-bedroom retreat. As well as an open-plan living and sitting room, its features now include a Victorian roll top bath, which has views out to the sea, and an outdoor shower.Co-manager of Eilean Shona, Sarah Watt, said: "As Sandi lives some of the time on a houseboat, she's used to being surrounded by water."She certainly seemed very at home here on the island, as did her travelling companion Philippa."It was a really fun weekend: we were very busy but we also laughed a lot."The crew filmed in April
