Prisoners taken to hospital after 'eating the same meal' and falling ill

A number of prisoners are said to fallen ill due to suspected food poisoning at a jail in the south of England. Emergency services raced to HMP Lews in East Sussex this afternoon (Thursday).

Some of the inmates were taken to hospital for treatment in the incident at the category B jail, according to the Press Association.

Around six people are thought to be unwell but the total number of people affected is yet to be confirmed. The prisoners are all thought to have eaten the same meal and no-one is considered to be in a life-threatening condition or seriously ill, according to officials. The South East Ambulance Service told the Mirror paramedics had responded to an incident at the prison that was reported to them at about midday.
