Princess Beatrice is celebrating her 35th birthday today and will no doubt be looking forwarding to spending the day with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and their young family. The Duke and Duchess of York's eldest daughter was born on August 8, 1988 at the Portland Hospital in London and was christened as Beatrice Elizabeth Mary.
On September 18, 2021, Beatrice and Edoardo welcomed their daughter, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi into the world. The pair are also parents to Edo's son Christopher Woolf 'Wolfie' from his previous relationship with architect Dara Huang.
The meaning behind Sienna's first name was explained by a family friend who told Hello!, "They were looking for an Italian name which started with an S for Sarah, to honour the Duchess [Sarah Ferguson], and also reflected the golden rust colour of both the Duchess's hair colour and Beatrice's, which the new baby shares." And, much like her other cousins, Princess Beatrice chose to honour her late grandmother by including 'Elizabeth' in Sienna's name. The desire for an Italian link stems from Edoardo's own family and his aristocratic links to Italian nobility.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Edoardo's father, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, explained: “Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation. "He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.” While Sienna is a beautiful name, some were hoping that the couple would choose to follow a family trend that Sarah, Duchess of York started and Princess Eugenie carried on.
