It has been revealed that Princess Anne is the new patron of The Murrayfield Injured Players Foundation (MIPF), a charity that supports injured grassroots rugby players in Scotland.
The Princess, aged 74, has shown unwavering support for Scottish Rugby over many years, having performed the official opening of Murrayfield's East Stand in 1983 and taking on the role of Patron for the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) in 1986.Ian Rankin, MIPF chair, commented on the Royal appointment: "The Princess Royal has been a dedicated supporter of the Scotland rugby team through umpteen swings of fortune since the 1980s, performing the official opening of Murrayfield's East Stand in 1983 and becoming the SRU's Patron in 1986."Her passion for sport, her commitment to the game at all levels, is well documented and we are honoured to have her join us as our Patron," he added.
In the past year alone, the MIPF has lent assistance to 18 male and eight female players who faced difficulties after injuries, reports the Express.
This news comes following the 74-year-old royal, often praised as one of the most industrious members of the Royal Family, dismissing the notion of retirement.
