Prince William has been spotted enjoying a pint with fellow football fans at a Wetherspoons pub. The Prince of Wales, an avid Aston Villa fan, was seen drinking at the Birmingham city centre boozer before a mid-week match.

He had asked the club to organise a meet-up with some of the team's most dedicated fans. The group gathered around tables for a lively discussion about their favourite team prior to an away game against Everton.

Daniel Jones, an 18-year-old sixth form college student from Burntwood, Staffordshire, said: "He was a lovely guy, proper down to earth and he loves Villa and the passion we all share. "I think if he didn’t have other commitments he would have loved to be at the match." At the pub, the London and North Western, the Prince enjoyed a Bulmers cider, but the staff kept quiet about who footed the bill for the drinks.

The future King spent over half an hour with the season ticket holders before they set off for the game. John McEvoy, a 64-year-old catering equipment business owner from Solihull, said: "William said a family friend took him to his first game – Villa against Bolton – and he’s loved the team ever since.
