With a family as big as the royals, it can be hard to remember which familial tie each member has to one another. So when Prince William introduced Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, as his 'aunt' at a recent event, fans were left surprised.
Sophie first crossed paths with her husband Prince Edward, William's uncle, in 1987. However, it wasn't until 1994 that their love story truly began, leading to their wedding in 1999 at St.
George's Chapel, Windsor. At that point Prince William was just twelve years old, so it comes as no surprise that Sophie has been a constant presence in his extended family.
And this close bond was evident when they both made a rare joint appearance at an event. They were both present at a screening of Rhino Man, a documentary about Anton Mzimba, a wildlife ranger who tragically lost his life to wildlife traffickers in July 2022.
