Just one year ago, Prince William took a huge leap forward in shining a spotlight on the homelessness problem that plagues the UK with the launch of Homewards. The project, which took two years to put together, is a five-year locally led programme which aims to demonstrate that together it is possible to end homelessness: making it 'rare, brief, and unrepeated'.

As well as using his platform to bring attention to the environment and mental health causes, the Prince of Wales' support for homelessness charities was sparked early on when Diana, Princess of Wales would take her young sons with her to visit those being helped by charities such as Centrepoint.

As the one year anniversary of Homewards is marked on Wednesday, 26 June, a leading royal expert reflects on how the project could have set the prince up for failure as it is a challenge that governments around the world are yet to attempt. "It is one hell of an ambitious project: to show that it’s possible to end homelessness and is something that no government has ever even approached," former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond exclusively told OK! "It seems to me to be a sensible business plan: to start in six locations and, using local knowledge and collaboration, create a model that could be rolled out if successful." On William's own involvement, Jennie adds: "I admire the way that William is taking a fresh and modern approach to social problems and becoming actively involved whenever he can, in spite of the pressures of Kate's illness. "I think his strategy of concentrating on a smaller number of issues …rather than just lending his name to an impossibly large number of charities is paying dividends.
