Prince William and Harry developed a serious rift when the younger brother was pictured in a Nazi costume, a new book claims.
The brothers picked outfits at Maud's Cotswold Costumes in January 2005 for a fancy dress party. William chose an animal costume and Harry decided on a khaki-coloured uniform.
The Duke of Sussex was later photographed while displaying an armband with a swastika, hitting headlines around the world. The response prompted Harry to consider the differing treatments of the pair, royal biographer Robert Lacey claims in Battle of Brothers, which is being serialised in the Daily Mail.
The book says Harry began to feel alienated from his family following the costume party incident, with a former aide saying of the brothers:
